The British Virgin Islands Recognised as the IFC of the Year

BVI Finance is pleased to announce that the British Virgin Islands (BVI) has won the International Financial Centre of the Year award during the China Offshore Awards held in Shanghai from the 13th - 15th November 2018.

The China Offshore Awards celebrates all the jurisdictions, service providers, organisations and individuals in the industry who have done the most to support and develop offshore financial services and the benefits they bring to the China market. Nominees for the awards were made by a panel of leading industry experts from a diverse range of disciplines offering unparalleled expertise, making nomination worthy of recognition. Winners in the award categories were decided by the independent panel, with input from more than 70,000 registered users of China Offshore’s multiple channels.

Sharing her views on the 2018 summit and the Award, Director of BVI House Asia Sherri Ortiz-Fahie said: “BVI is recognized today for exemplary performance and for demonstrating best practices in providing compatible and innovative solutions required in today’s ever-changing landscape”. She added: “Though this award is a testament to our leading position amongst offshore jurisdictions, it also speaks to the strong partnerships we continue to build.” Commenting further, Interim Executive Director of BVI Finance Lorna Smith, OBE, said: “This award further shows that no matter what obstacle has been put in our path or recent challenges we’ve faced, the BVI is still classed as the jurisdiction of choice for business in Asia. We pride ourselves on our relationship with China and with the wider Asia-Pacific region, and we thank all the practitioners who voted for the BVI as the IFC of the year.”

The executive management team at China Offshore Summit extended their congratulations to BVI Finance, BVI House Asia, and the providers representing the jurisdiction. They noted the BVI’s ability to bring new products to the market and its continued commitment to compliance as determining factors in confirming BVI as the jurisdiction of choice for Chinese private and corporate clients. BVI House Asia Director, Sherri Ortiz-Fahie and her team were present at the three-day event to connect and explore future partnerships in China.
